Sustainable fat loss is more complicated than calories in vs. calories out (we wish it’s that simple!).
For many, there are other fires in the body to put out before the body has the resources for fat loss.
The thing about chronic disease and the aging process is they are identified as a state of inflammation, among the other causes of inflammation such as allergies, asthma, arthritis, or autoimmunity. We also now know that diabetes and obesity are inflammatory problems, as are heart disease, cancer, depression, autism, and dementia.
Our fat cells produce inflammatory molecules that perpetuate weight gain and disease. Factors like infections, mold, food allergens…etc can trigger weight-gain inducing inflammation, independent of caloric intake – these trigger inflammation then creates insulin resistance and promotes weight gain.
IS YOUR BODY READY TO LOSE FAT?
Numerous studies have shown that when animals are stressed, they gain weight, even if they’re eating the same number of calories as they did before they were stressed. These studies also show stressed animals gain more weight than unstressed animals eating the exact same number of calories.
This is something we see very often in the fat-loss aspiring clients. Until we establish a baseline of healthy body function, the body may not be ready for healthy fat loss.
WHAT NOW?
If you’re having difficulty losing fat and/or losing weight, take a look at your lifestyle, how acutely aware are you of stress triggers and how are you managing them?
MANAGE CORTISOL
Cortisol is one of the steroid hormones and is made in the adrenal glands.
It’s also commonly called the “stress hormone” because of its connection to the stress response. However, cortisol is much more than that.
Understanding cortisol and its effect on your body and physical fitness will benefit managing hormones and regaining health. While producing cortisol is a necessity for life and helps keep us motivated, awake and responsive to our environment, maintaining abnormally high circulating cortisol levels can become dangerous and contribute to long-term problems, it also increases blood sugar #itsallconnected
The hardest stressors to manage in our experience are mental and psychological which are strongly tied to beliefs, habits, upbringing, culture.
Stress reduction is an illusion but stress management is a solution.
