What is Functional Medicine and how does it integrate with Fitness?

Functional medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Generally, fitness programs are surface level and do not go in depth enough for individuals who are dealing with underlying issues like gut problems that link to unhealthy adrenals, thyroid issues etc. At Limitless, we bridge the gap between Functional Medicine and Fitness, specializing in gut health and women’s health, working with clients to establish an equilibrium in hormones, health and life. Our founder and head coach, Tricia Yap, is Hong Kong’s only Functional Medicine Health Coach who integrates FM and Fitness.

What are the coaches at Limitless like?

Qualified, energetic, committed, motivating, enthusiastic, bright, sympathetic, dedicated, understanding, passionate, professional, healthy, intelligent, flexible, knowledgeable, approachable, trustworthy, compassionate, respectful, friendly, ordinary people….

During COVID-19 pandemic, do you provide alternatives to in-person personal training?

During COVID-19, we are happy to provide personal and semi private training (where regulations allow) outdoors or in the comfort of your own home within specific locations in Hong Kong. For at-home personal training, we have a small surcharge of $100 on top of PT sessions for time and travel.

Limitless also provides online training programs, both live and programmed. Please contact us for more information.

I am an amateur/professional athlete. Would the Limitless approach be relevant to me?

Not only do we have a proven track record of working with world class professional athletes, we find that interweaving a health coaching approach with nutritional & lifestyle change to strength & conditioning training, makes our athletes more bulletproof – they become stronger and better adapted to their sport, they are also more resilient physically, mentally, and emotionally. We have sponsorships available for amateur and professional athletes, please contact us if you are interested.

Our cancellation policies are: Cancellations outside of 24 hours are not charged, but a cancellation within 12 hours, will be charged the price of a full session. While we try to be flexible, and understand that emergencies happen, our coaches do have other client commitments so their time should be respected too.

We’re confident that you will enjoy working with our coaches at Limitless. However, should anything happen, we hope that you would consider speaking to us first. If you’d still like a refund, refunds of any unused sessions will be made only within a week of purchase. There are no refunds for sessions outside of the 7-day window from day of purchase.

Personal Training

Why should I invest in personal training?

Putting the investment cost aside, think about what your dream vision is for your health, fitness and body composition. What do you want to achieve? Do you know how to achieve it? Would you have the motivation and the skills to achieve it? Just like anyone who wants to accelerate career progression , or learn a new set of skills, you would pursue learning from someone or getting guidance from a mentor. A personal trainer, or as we prefer, a COACH is someone who can help you achieve your optimal health, performance and body composition goals through motivation, mentoring, teaching, guiding and helping you apply the know-how to getting the results you want and need.

I've done Personal Training before and the weight loss results didn't last. Why would PT at Limitless be any different?

While it would be irresponsible for us to promise you the moon before even talking to you, we are confident that we can help you understand your health better on a deeper level. If you have done personal training before, do know that the restrictive diets and “no pain, no gain” approach recommended by most personal trainers actually lead to long term metabolism and health problems for many clients. This is predominantly the reason why weight loss results don’t last. Understanding root causes of health issues is paramount priority as it is important to establish what your obstacles are to healthy fat loss. In parallel to your personalized training program, your coach checks in with you regularly on progress and goal alignment. Communication is key and we have seen extensive results with individuals who work with the coaches on a collaborative approach.

What is Personalized Nutrition and how is this different from prescribed meal plans that fitness instructors offer?

Most personal trainers calculate your calorie intake based on various factors such as your age, sex, activity level, body mass and create meal plans based on a split of macronutrients. This assumes that the calories in and calories out concept holds true in all cases. As people age, experience lifestyle challenges that could create hormonal imbalances or poor digestion and absorption, amongst other things – this concept holds less true. At Limitless, we personalise your nutrition via a multifaceted discovery approach in partnership with YOU: functional lab testing that looks into gut health, nutrient status, blood sugar management, etc; in-depth health and lifestyle assessment; motivational interviewing, and understanding your goals and unique challenges. A solution only works if it works for you!

What happens during a personal training session at Limitless?

During a PT session at Limitless, your coach will always check in with you on how you are currently feeling and whether there is anything new we should know that could affect your ability to train. During your training session, your coach will take you through mobilisation and pre-activation to warm up, explain what movements you’re doing, and why if needed. Sometimes, your coach may carve out a portion of time to work on nutritional and lifestyle habits. Remember: while working out is important, what you do outside of the gym is equally just as important so we want to make sure you are well equipped to make better decisions outside to optimize the work you do inside the gym.

Will my Trainer put me on a diet or stop me smoking/drinking?

Our coaching approach is a collaborative one. We definitely do not dictate or force you to do anything you don’t want to do. We will never sacrifice your emotional, physical, and mental health and wellbeing to get a result for Instagram. We will always explain the impact certain lifestyle and nutritional habits will have on your health, but it is your choice as to whether you are willing and prepared to change some negative habits slowly and sustainability.

I’m not looking for a weight loss plan, but I am looking to gain weight - can you help?

Gaining lean muscle mass can be just as hard as losing fat. We do have clients and experience with helping clients gain weight that is healthy, and we do this through the same discovery, assessment and design approach that is unique to each client.

I would like to train with a friend, would this be possible?

Absolutely, yes! We love training buddies and absolutely encourage it. We have pricing for 2:1 personal training sessions available and we adopt the same integrated approach as we would with individual clients.

OK, I am pretty ready to work with a coach but I want to know if I will get along with the coach. May I meet them first?

Absolutely! We believe part of your success is that you have a healthy and honest relationship with your coach. Book in a Personal Training trial and we will take it from there!

Functional Medicine

hidden
What is functional medicine health coaching?

Functional medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.

We are trained to help people change their lifestyle to better meet their bodies’ needs while functioning in our digital, fast-paced world. The way we work and live has changed in the past century, but our bodies’ needs have not. That is why we focus on food, movement, sleep, stress management, and social connection.

We are also trained in our scope of practice. Meaning, that we know how to identify when you might need medical or mental health assistance beyond our expertise and we are trained to help you seek out that kind of support, as needed.

What is the first FM consultation like?

Prior to your first FM consultation, you will be sent a health and lifestyle questionnaire that also includes a MSQ (medical symptoms questionnaire). The more information you can provide to us, the better position we are to help! If you have any recent health reports or anything relevant, we would be happy to see this too. We analyse and assess all this information, and during your first consultation, we will also spend some of the time to drill down into your health timeline. We then speak about your goals and delve into one or two action points that you can do to get you closer to your goals. We ensure these actionables are realistic, relevant and agreed on. We consider your limitations or lifestyle derailers, and help you plan accordingly if these do eventuate. The first consultation usually takes about 60 minutes but do plan for 75minutes.

Do you do functional lab testing?

Absolutely. Through our laboratory partners, we offer a wide range of functional lab tests for gut health, adrenal and sex hormone health, blood sugar, nutritional status, and much more. Read more HERE

The Metabolic Reset™

What do I need to get started?

Aside from an open mind and a willingness to commit to making better decisions towards your health, you need a Zoom account as the workshops will be done via Zoom.

All workshops will be recorded and made online for a limited time to view.

What does The Metabolic Reset™ program not do?

Our coaching assumes that you take full responsibility for your own wellbeing. Any information provided in this program is for general education only and is not intended to substitute for the advice, treatment and/or diagnosis of a licensed professional.

This program is NOT a transformation and it is NOT designed for a quick fix weight loss. The weight you lose on this program would be a result of decreasing inflammation and improving blood sugar balance. It would require continued effort for maintenance but more importantly, habitual change which is what we hope to sow the seeds for throughout this program.

What is continuous glucose monitoring?

A continuous glucose monitoring is a really neat glucose monitoring device that consists of a sensor that attaches to your arm and measures capillary blood sugar. The sensor is connected with an app that works on most smartphones.

During the course of The Metabolic Reset™, we will show you how and teach you how to read the results and what they mean.

Do I need the lab testing and supplements recommended on The Metabolic Reset™?

We highly recommend that you consider functional lab testing and using the recommended practitioner grade supplements from brands we trust for the best results. We use these supplements because they are proven to work, they are high quality and do not contain fillers unlike most brands you can buy off iherb. We want you to get the best results possible, so we don’t want to take any chances.
